Whenever I’m watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, I’m usually mildly annoyed by the inane, witless “banter” that is written for the on-air “talent”. (e.g., “Wow, it looks like Kermit’s got an inflated ego!”) So, naturally, once the show began for the 2012 Olympics, and the Today Show’s Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira were introduced as commentators, I felt a tightening in my chest. Well, lower really. Much lower.
In any case, I hope one of two things: Either the moronic writer who came up with Vieira’s seemingly-clueless prattle got fired immediately, or that Ms. Vieira will admit it was an honest – and terrible – ad-lib, and apologize for not being prepared for the job.
I expect to be disappointed in these hopes.
