Prior to the President’s speech on national security this week, I really struggled with the question about the unmanned drone strikes. As a tried-and-true political leftist, I had an immensely difficult time trying to come up with a justifiable defense. A friend of mine and I had a good, frank conversation about it, and I think I’ve had to shift my attitude a little on this. The fact of the matter is, that while drones are terrible weapons…so is pretty much everything else in war. I ran across a good summation on a Ron Paul forum: “[Drones] are the worst form of warfare in the history of the world, except for all the others.” I also ran across a thought-provoking essay on the morality of the drone program on Salon.com. So, I have to say that, at this point, my position on this topic is…evolving.
And Jane is thrown off, much to Cole’s delight.
