I had just this epiphany when my kids and I were watching the latest episode of “Avatar: The Legend of Korra”, and my four-year-old daughter couldn’t understand why we couldn’t just keep watching to find out what happened next. I realized that, as they’ve been watching old shows on Netflix (e.g., “Curious George”, the ’90s version of “X-Men”, “Busytown Mysteries”, etc.), everything’s already laid out from beginning to end for them. When there have been continuing storylines, we just need to spend another 22-44 minutes to wrap things up.

Anyone else thought about this?

I was taking an online quiz the other day which asked you to list the names of all the Monopoly properties. I did fine up until the green group on the last row, where I couldn’t for the life of me remember “Pacific Avenue”. I used to be able to rattle off not only all the properties, but the rents of each, so this was a bit of a personal ego blow.

…And that should make you feel fairly better about yourself, I think.

Yeah, during the 2008 campaign, Republicans – and Hillary Clinton – were firmly for the individual mandate, while then-Senator Obama came out very strongly against it. As things went on, he changed his mind. And don’t get me wrong – I firmly believe that he had every right to do that. Everyone does. We all should be able to stand up and say, “Yes, that’s what I used to believe, but I’ve seen new information, gained new insight, and learned new things, and I’ve changed my mind.”

But if the mandate is struck down – and conceivably with it, meaningful healthcare reform – it could lead to the Democrats using that as a collective point of distinction against the Republicans. “We want healthcare reform because insurance costs too much. The Republicans and their cronies in the Supreme Court don’t think it does.” This could lead the base, moderates, and even those on the other side, to become more energized and to come out in force to support the President and his party in the fall election.

Really not sure which way the wind’s blowing, here.

After last week’s foray into religion and politics, I thought it appropriate to balance things out with this week’s slightly lower-brow humor.

I love to debate with people, but I really don’t like to talk about my religion in public. I feel that, far too often, if I mention anything about it, people will automatically assume I’m associated with and/or agree with people like this.

I don’t. And I know there are others like me. But like me, I know a lot of them are scared to speak up for the same reasons. Have courage, friends. And my apologies to those who are offended by my statements. I will not apologize for what I’ve said, but I will apologize if it seems offensive.

For now, that is all.
