Sorry for the delay, there. Being the parent of two children, the hubby of a NaNoWriMo participant, a wage earner and moonlighter, and a fan of quite a few TV shows results in precious little time for drawing & writing my fun little strip, here. Like I said last time, there are a few loose ends to tie up in the storyline, but I’m looking forward to getting back to a little non-serialized storytelling for a while. Gives the brain a chance to rest.

That’s right, boys and girls, the storyline is coming to an end! It’s not completely over yet; there are still some significant background issues that need to be addressed, and it totally didn’t end up where I expected it to, but the light at the end of this Tunnel-o-Niftiness (pat. pend.) is getting brighter!

It’s ten after 9 PM on the East Coast on Election Night. I shouldn’t be biting my fingernails this much at this point. Dangit.

Guess what we just watched on TV with my 4 (nearly 5) year-old son? When I was a kid, my mom had set a tape recorder up beside the TV to record the audio track of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”, so I could listen to it whenever I wanted to. And boy, did I! I can recite most of the show from memory, including the fun inflections of the obviously-not-understanding-what-words-they’re-saying-kids. The haunting flute melody from Snoopy’s run behind enemy lines in WWI France sticks with me to this day…

Of course, it might be easier for them to give Jane a big furry hat, overdub her voice with Natasha’s from Rocky and Bullwinkle, and claim that Governor Palin found her sneaking around Alaska, just outside her house… But, I’m not gonna suggest it to them. I don’t wanna give the GOP any ideas.

So, sorry once again, for the tardiness of the new comic. Was dealing with some writer’s block, there, but the Eponymous Neaner helped me barrage my way through that wall, like one of the Confederate soldiers on Pickett’s Charge! Wait…that didn’t work out too well for them, now, did it? Dang… Well, then, it worked like a good metaphor is supposed to work. There; that did it.

Oh, and she even helped me out on her birthday! If that isn’t love and affection for me, I don’t know what is.

Sorry for the unintended hiatus, there. My work/family/social schedule is shifting around a bit, and I’m still trying to figure out exactly where I can put things. I might have to make Tuesday nights the new official update night for Zoidland, but we’ll see what works out next week.

Yes, I’m aware of the fact that it’s not Monday. It’s Tuesday. Deal with it. I’d talk more except my wife’s hovering over the remote wanting to watch the season premiere of House, so please excuse me.

This comic includes my most sincere apologies to Garrison Keillor and A Prairie Home Companion. I was introduced to the show by a fantastic professor of mine on a cold, snowy Thanksgiving afternoon in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in Oregon. The woodstove crackled occasionally to emphasize the soft, lethargic mood of the afternoon, as we listened to Keillor’s soft, sonorous voice. Despite the hypnotic atmosphere and the fact that we were all stuffed silly with homemade chicken pot pie and apple dumplings, I didn’t fall asleep; I was caught up in the news from Lake Wobegon.

Life is good. I need to remind myself of that sometimes.
