I’m not a vegetarian, but I’m pretty darn close. And I have a deep appreciation for foods that taste like various meat products, but aren’t actually produced from said products.

In any case, the other day, I was on Twitter and watching folks come up with book titles that replaced one word with bacon (e.g., “The Unbearable Lightness of Bacon” or “The Old Man and the Bacon”). After a while, I wondered what Jane would have to say about that. Well, with the help of tonight’s comic, wonder no more! Um, maybe a little more. Perhaps a large smidgen more. ‘Cause she doesn’t even address that question here. I’m going to have to talk to her about all that…

I recently called a friend of mine and got his answering machine. When the machine picked up, the first words I heard were, “Captain’s Log…”, thusly assuring me that there was someone out there who was nerdier than I. I learned at an early age that my enjoyment of Star Trek novels was something to keep in the privacy of my own home, although for a time, I was free to gush about how cool the most recent episode of The X-Files was. And while my younger self may have dabbled a bit in fanfic writing, I was thrown for a loop when I met an avid cross-over fanfic writer in college – she had Mulder and Scully investigating a fellow named Sam Beckett who claimed to be Quantum Leaping all over time…among other stories.

Nowadays, I proudly wear the moniker of “geek”, but am still leery of my latent “nerd”iness. Anyone else out there have similar experiences?

New guy was intended to be just a one-shot dude for last week, but his effect on Jane seems to have captured a bit of my imagination. Except for the part where he gets a name; haven’t figured that much out yet. We’ll see how much longer he sticks around…
