What’s in an Agreement?

  • Former President Donald Trump has announced that he has “agreed” to debate Harris on September 4th on Fox News. I put “agreed” in quotes, because usually an agreement involves discussions between two opposing parties, but there’s been no indication that the Harris campaign had anything to do with this arrangement. In fact, the two campaigns (back when it was still the Biden campaign on the Democratic side) had already committed to an ABC News-moderated debate on September 10th, which Trump is now attempting to back out of. • Tangential to that, enough electors have officially spoken for Vice President Kamala Harris to make her the official presumptive Democratic candidate for President. LINK
  • Expanding beyond election news, earlier this week, military prosecutors had announced that a plea deal had been arranged for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other members of Al-Qaeda who had organized the 9/11 attacks. This deal would have resulted in them pleading guilty to everything in exchange for the prosecution agreeing not to seek the death penalty. I say “would have” because U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has since revoked the arrangement, as well as the authority of the officer overseeing the military court who signed the agreement. No word on what happens next on this front. LINK
  • And finally, the U.S. is deploying ships and fighter jets to the Middle East. This is in an effort to help defend Israel from possible retaliatory attacks from Iran. Top leaders of militant groups Hamas and Hezbollah have been assassinated in recent weeks, with Iran vowing revenge. LINK
