Jeff’s Notes (AKA, A Brief History of the Last 24 Hours in US Politics) for August 12, 2024:

• Former President Trump, on his Truth Social website is attempting to claim that Vice President Harris’ position at the top of the Democratic ticket is unconstitutional. While this is patently false, many Trump critics (on both the Democratic and Republican sides) see this as an attempt to lay the groundwork for again casting doubt on the outcome of November’s election. • In related news, at 8 PM ET tonight, Trump will be interviewed live by Elon Musk on the latter’s X (formerly Twitter) website. This is seen both as a boon to Musk, and an alarm for Trump’s own competing website, Truth Social. In fact, Trump’s X account posted for the first time in a year today, leaving one to wonder if this is the beginning of the end for Truth Social. LINK
• On the other side of the fence, last week, Harris presented her running mate in a series of campaign events in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona, and Nevada. This week, Governor Walz will be flying solo, with trips to California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York. His demeanor of joy and positivity, mixed with criticisms of Trump’s policies and legal issues have proven popular with the crowds. LINK
