Okay, so since my typical logline for this website is “A Brief History of the last 24 Hours in US Politics”, here’s what happened: Donald Trump won a second term as president. Republicans have also clinched control of the Senate, although as of this writing, things are still up in the air as far as the House is concerned. So there you go. That’s what happened in the last 24 hours.

A friend of mine asked me the other day where I’ll go from here with my blog. This was set up to help explain the huge things that were happening in the race for president after President Joe Biden’s disastrous performance at the debate over the summer, and then his ultimate withdrawal from the race. It’s a good question, and I had some ideas, but honestly? They were all largely predicated on a win by Vice President Kamala Harris. That (obviously) didn’t happen.

I’ve done my best to keep things even-handed in how I treated the two parties. I say “parties” there because I firmly believed — and continue to do so — that Donald Trump does not represent a healthy Republican party. The statements and anti-endorsements from a significant portion of his now-previous administration agree with me on this. But for now, I find it quite difficult to look at things in the same way, because the GOP has fully embraced the grift of a convicted felon, and it seems a majority of the electorate have gone along for the ride.

So. I need to take a moment. I don’t have any stirring words of camaraderie, or bold statements of defiance. I’m hurting emotionally, and worried for my family, friends, neighbors — the world, really. And I need some time to work through that.

I hope to come back to this site, someday. But for now, I need to heal. Feel free to reach out through comments here or on one of the social networks I post on. I’m not “going dark” completely. Just don’t have anything more to say here at the moment.
